The Gospel calls us to visit those in prisons and jails. “I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.” (Matthew 25:35-36)
The Archdiocesan Ministry to the Incarcerated seeks to address that calling by providing pastoral care and a healing presence to the incarcerated and by making the Catholic community aware of their needs.
Prayer is the foundation of every ministry. Please pray for those involved in prison ministry and consider organizing a prayer ministry. You are a blessing to us.
The Archdiocese of Mobile serves the imprisoned, including death row inmates, by visiting all of the state facilities and several county facilities. The Prison Ministry is an extension of each parish to provide a community of support for people who are incarcerated and their families. All volunteers must be approved by their priest and the archdiocesan office to minister inside a prison. If you are interested in serving as a volunteer, please contact us for more information.
Parishes and volunteers that are not able to serve in a direct capacity can support the ministry through financial donations. Please contact us for more information on how to donate.
