The ACCW has raised funds for seminarian education through the Burse Club since 1953. The Burse Club is a trust fund that is invested in The Catholic Foundation, where 5% is distributed annually to help fund the expense of seminarian formation. The 5% annual distribution funds the formation expense of about 5 seminarians each year.
The expense of educating seminarians is at an all time high and we are currently blessed with 14 seminarians in the Archdiocese of Mobile.
Burse Club dues in 1953 were $12, due to inflation, that is the equivalent of $143.73 today.
In an effort to continue the tradition of growing the Burse fund, $130,000 of the Burse collection is deposited annually into the Burse Club endowment. All additional donations to Burse are used to fund current seminarian formation expenses.
Mass is offered daily at St. Bernard Benedictine Abbey in Cullman for all donors to Burse Club.
Catholic Charities Appeal funds are NOT used for any seminarian expenses.
